Though Christmas comes but once a year – there are cultural and traditional events all year round in Bad Schlema.

Sway to the music at the European Blasmusikfestival or enjoy a glass of wine at the wine festival. Bad Schlema has something to offer for every taste.

Greet the New Year and join others on January 11th , 2014, in a diverse programme of music and performances given by the Kammerphilharmonie Miriquidi e.V., accompanied by vocalists, regional choirs and dancers.

Every Easter and Easter Monday, direct marketers of the region offer their products from 11:00am till 06:00pm in Bad Schlema's festively decorated shopping mall. We are sure you would find a souvenir here to take home with you.

Bonfires and Maypole

Bonfires and Maypole

To celebrate Walpurgis night and say farewell to the winter, bonfires are lit in Bad Schlema and surrounding towns. Their blaze can be seen for miles around. As is tradition, a maypole is erected on May Day at the main entrance of the recreation park, where it remains a permanent feature till autumn.

Enjoy the sheer pleasure of music and treat yourself to Bad Schlema's spa concerts during the summer time – a diverting entertainment brought to you every Sunday at 02:30 pm at the bandstand. After a very short walk, there is also a musical fountain with timed sound waves of classic melodies to be found.

Our annual fun run, taking place in May in our spa gardens, has already attracted hundreds of runners and running enthusiasts alike. Run up hill and down dale on either a 6-kilometres (approx. 3.7 miles) or 10-kilometres (approx. 6.2 miles) long trail.

The Miner's Day in Bad Schlema

In July of 1955, some thirty-three miners lost their lives in the worst mining disaster in Wismut history. In commemoration of those who were killed, the Wismut miners meet annually during the first weekend in July. You will want to be a part of this community's special day by mingling among them as they, clad in their historical costumes and uniforms, wish you 'Glück auf, 'Good luck', and you will not want to miss the opportunity to watch them as they proudly parade through the streets, listen to their music, or go to the exhibitions, and even join them in a colloquy.

Every year, on the first weekend in September, guests are invited to partake in the bakehouse event. Sniff the inimitable, appetizing smell of baked goods coming straight from a historic clay bread oven.

If you are a music enthusiast who also likes the atmosphere of a huge festival tent, then the third weekend in September of each year has to be your personal red-letter day.
From Friday till Sunday, thousands of visitors come to Bad Schlema to partake in this unique atmosphere filled with many hours of music performances by a vast array of ensembles from all over Europe.

Every year on October 2 various museums and other cultural facilities of the Association of Towns “Silberberg” invite you to visit at an unusual hour. You are welcomed to enjoy an interesting and varied program from 6 pm till midnight.

Wine and wellspring festival

To celebrate the opening of our spa facilities and bathing establishment ACTINON in 1998, Bad Schlema hosts a wine and wellspring festival on the first weekend following the third of October. At and around the bandstand, situated in the forecourt of the spa facilities, wines and other culinary delights of our region are offered for sale. A musical entertainment programme provides for a cheerful atmosphere.

During the Christmas season, there are large Christmas pyramids in many cities and towns in the Erzgebirge to be marvelled at. One of those can be seen in the district Wildbach, where, on the Saturday before the first advent, the Christmas pyramid will be set into motion. A trombone band provides for a festive atmosphere.

One of the most delightful times to come and see our region is certainly the Christmas season. Whether you travel the deep valleys or the mountain ranges, a unique light of warmth will follow your every step. Christmas concerts, the celebration of historic Mettenschichten (the last shift on Christmas Eve in a mine), as well as vesper services are held all throughout the Erzgebirge.
